Eau Claire was founded by French voyagers in the late 1700s and was originally named “Eaux Claires,” meaning “Clear Waters.” Eau Claire was incorporated in 1872. The logging industry helped build the economy in the late 19th century.
Today, Eau Claire’s economy has expanded to include many other business sectors, such as healthcare, nanotechnology, high-tech, manufacturing, and lots of retail too! Eau Claire is home to several regional and national companies, as well as many educational institutions including the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, the Chippewa Valley Technical College, and Immanuel Lutheran College. We are very proud to be recently name one of the most “Secure Places To Live” and “Best Places To Live” in national surveys!
As its name indicates, Eau Claire has the lakes and rivers to satisfy the needs of fishermen, boaters and outdoor-lovers alike! You may find yourself fishing in Half Moon Lake, tubing down the Chippewa River, or boating on the Eau Claire River. The city maintains 363 acres of parkland and 21 miles of recreational trails. The Chippewa River State Trail offers hiking and biking during the summer months and cross-country skiing in the Winter.

“We've been renting a house from Graystone Management for almost 4 years now. Everyone at the company is very dedicated to what they do, and they treat you like family. Anytime we've had an issue, they've responded immediately. They come out themselves instead of hiring a contractor, so you know that things will get done right away and will be done right. For example, the handle came off of our faucet, and they replaced the whole thing for us. They also come out twice a year to make sure that the house is prepared for the changing seasons, and they leave little gifts around the holidays. Our neighbor is an older woman who has been with them for a long time, so they've done nice things for her like paint her garage, upgrade her flooring, etc. And in all of our time with them, they've only raised our rent $10 - not $10 per year, $10 total. We have nothing but good things to say about Vicki, John, and everyone at Graystone."
